A couple of articles that I authored recently cover the considerations of hiring a copywriter and some advice about company websites. While we provide consultation at ACME Writing, llc, we also hand out free advice whenever possible because it’s what every company should do.

The first of the articles deals with the difference between outrageous copywriters and the real, hard working plain-vanilla variety. If I had a dime for every new client who said they wanted a long-form sales page that looked just like so-n-so, I would be living on a beach in Fiji. I then ask the enthusiastic new client if they can point to any major Fortune 500 or 1000 company that uses that type of copywriting? Well, no.

Then there is the matter of a well-developed website.  Many companies create a website that is lacking important elements. One such element is a complete and transparent About Us page.  The volume of business that must be lost every year because of this important oversight has to be horrenous.  Most people don’t like dealing with a faceless, nameless entity online. Period.

Good content and a real public face are both best practices for any company serious about competing in the global economy. Great copywriting trumps tacky copy and a comprehensive About Us page will win over converts and contribute to sales.

Practice both.
